About the Control of Balance and Locomotion Lab

Upwards of $20 billion/year is spent on injury related to falls in older adults. It is a major health care concern that will only grow as our population ages. New treatments for individuals with balance disorders are needed that take advantage of recent advances in diagnosis, prevention and smart technology.  In my research group, we approach the balance problem by addressing how the brain combines sensory information about the environment and one’s own body movement to understand how patient populations with neurological disease and injury lead to poor balance control. Our basic science findings are then translated into “smart health”  and wearable technology that lead to improved mobility and daily life function.
